This sounds like it might be identifying the cause of these bug reports:

Elemental or Regular Defense Debuff, and Other Status Effects Fail – Likely a Visual Bug

Athena attacked Vivica and Vivicas buffed defence (+64%) just got removed without additional debuff (-41%) from Athena. Jackal attacked Domi and her defence was not affected by his color debuff (-54%). Devs, check these and correct your code if bugs found.
