@NicoX If I donât reply now then I never will, and I am scared I might beat even your record.
I am good but very stressed.
You know when you lie on your cv and say youâre living in London to get a job, then you get the job, canât drive or afford a man and van for the 3 hr journey and then need to find somewhere in London on a tight budget?
I absolutely didnât do any of thatđ
On top of that, I absolutely donât need a small suitcase to ferry my booksđ
Still, itâll be worth it in the end, putting all my random historical facts to good use alongside ny âexcuse me, can you NOT touch that!â politely outraged voice.
Couldnât help but read, hope things work out well for you @Dragongirl13 !! I know a few people who work in London but live outside too⌠the cost differential can be huge!
@sleepyhead yup. A little bit different than Somerset and since the last time I defected.
And just when youâre think youâre done with rooms so small that your bed is effectively a bunk bed, something comes along to suprise you even moreâ:rofl:
oooph. @Dragongirl13 wow. perfect for the night shift worker maybe? I hope the owner wonât spill any coffee on the bed
Amsterdam can also get pretty bad so I feel your pain
Yikes!!
That does sound like a nightmare.
I do sympathise with the whole bankstatement thing as Iâm having that problem atm. 3 months worth of payslips and bank statements when youâve been on benefits for 2 years ainât gonna get me a room.
Some landlords need to be tied up in a sack and dragged back to Spain, which would do away with the problem of Zwarte Piet and be very satisfyingđ
you are hella knowledgeable and a quick study!!
hopefully your new job and work contract will help you get some leverage
My first landlady here tried to get me to pay for the ownersâ fees too Maybe she didnât expect me to read the fine print and raise a stink lol
@sleepyhead youâre way too kind.
A little secret about me.
My Mum is actually half Dutch, although I havenât been to the Netherlands since I was small. I remember De Eftling!!
Wow. What a â â â â â !!
Weâll see what happens in 7 months. Iâve worked for this company before and getting a permanent position with them is very difficult.
But, fish, sea and all that.
And in true @NicoX style weâve gone off topicđ
Oh my. Iâm so sorry. I hope things are looking up for you! Change is tough, but is worth it more often than not.
Iâm so proud of you. Then again, itâs a a topic about an anniversary which happened about 2 centuries ago and involves me, so Iâm not sure off-topic is even a concept here
I am
@nicoX Well Iâve moved and am paying a stupid amount for one room, which will do me for a couple of months until I can afford to move to hopefully somewhere cheaper.I start training for my new job on Monday and the week after that itâs press week for our major exhibition which I will be giving guided tours and talks on, as well the rest of the Palace.
Itâs nice to be back in London and hopefully I might get a permanent job at the end of the season.
Itâs going to be a fun, exciting summer and the absolute worst bit about where I will be working, is that itâs a 15 minute walk from the Natural History Museum.
I am doomed!!!
Sent using Zoho Mail
The Palace?
Buckingham?
Sounds exciting. Go girl.
@Steve9999 Kensington.
I did apply for Buckingham but they donât open until June and this is the better job with more opportunities.
Wonderful!
Nor sure how I explain to my wife that I want to go to a âCrown to Coutureâ exhibition . Not my normal style
Is there an option to select @Dragongirl13 as tour guide in the online booking process?
@Steve9999 If it makes you feel any better, my work coach now knows a lot more about 18th century fashion than he ever wanted to becauee of the presentation I had to give to get the jobđ¤Ł
I donât think so, but I will find out more information at some point next week.
On the bright side, you could be living in the Upper East Side and get a closet or a parking spot for the same price.
So things are looking up! So glad to hear that.
Wait, the⌠the Natural History Museum⌠the⌠the place where all the stuff about⌠about⌠DINOSAURS is?! I take back everything I said, you wonât be working at all.
Silver lining though, you really donât need to worry about rent actually, youâll just live there.
Photoshop âto coutureâ out of the flyer.
Wait until she shows up and sneak into her group. Do I really have to teach you everything?
@Dragongirl13 I wanted to wish you good luck for your first day and finding a cheaper place!
I believe you will ace the first one! As for the latter, well⌠gotta keep trying as long as it takes.
@SamMe thanks!!
Today went very well, although exhausting physically when you have a bad shoulder and havenât worked for 2 years.
It was just an introduction to the role, to an exhibition we havenât seen but is going to be amazing.
They have no idea how things are going to pan out and how busy it will be, so playing it by ear.
BUT Blake Livelyâs dress from last yearâs Met is going to be in there and the Rockingham Mantuaâ:heart_eyes:
I did this once before about 5 years ago at Hampton Court, but didnât get a job at the end of the season. This time around I know what to expect and where to look, so something will come up.
@Dragongirl13 Anytime!
Iâm glad to hear you smashed your first day! It sucks when your body (or mind) does not work the way it can⌠You have my support!
I hope the exhibition is very busy so that you can be assigned lots of work⌠I have some great memories of working in Central London and elsewhere⌠I will live vicariously through you!
I think we have each other on Line. Feel free to message me there.
thank you for the update @Dragongirl13 , hope things continue to go well and get better! and glad youâre having some fun in London too - yay for museums!!
