Darn it, @FrenziedEye. You still have an unfinished business on the thread you have created IN RE: players that left the game and/or forum.
Thank you everyone for all the lovely comments. I wasnât expecting anyone to start a thread, so thank you very much @algeco. It was very kind of you and everyone here to say all those nice things.
In classic forum-departure style I will leave behind a farewell note here.
Iâm getting a bit emotional - I know itâs only a grinding mobile game but I did spend a couple of years toiling away at it (and making friends with everyone here) so itâs not exactly something easy to let go of. But I know itâs the right thing to do.
I would like to take a moment to explain my decision for all those who are sitting on the fence or curious as to what I am thinking.
Last week I was watching Fantastic Beasts 1 and 2. Random movies, I know. But they made me think:
Gee, when was the last time I read Harry Potter? Did I even finish Harry Potter? (No, I didnât). Ok but when was the last time I read a fantasy epic? I used to read them all the time growing up. What happened to that?
When was the last time I invested heavily in any kind of fantasy genre epic in a book, movie or video game? I love the fantasy genre!!
Then it hit me. I had a sinking feeling.
Well the truth was I just havenât had made the time. Because Iâve been so engrossed with Empires and Puzzles!!!
Truly, this was the first mobile game where I felt compelled to grind every day and hour just to keep up with summoning as many of the best heroes as possible.
Donât get me wrong, I love/d this game. But when I have to throw everything else I love away just to get a <2% chance at something I want (after months of toiling for coins) that just seems too high of a price to pay.
And again. As many have said before me, I would have left AGES ago were it not for the crew on the forum here and my alliance mates. That was the best part of the game. I will still be in touch from time to time.
Just leaving this open but if anyone wants to reach out to me and you donât have my discord, my email is eyefrenzied@gmail.com. Would be happy to keep in touch that way too as friends, as pen pals, whatever
So, what will I do with my newfound time?
-
Not check my phone every ten minutes
-
Read these books
-
Re-play the Last of Us for my wife to watch
-
Maybe I will try to write a book, if I have the discipline and stomach for it
-
Watch Star Trek: The Next Generation
Iâm not deleting my account but I will park it here indefinitely. I expect to get withdrawal symptoms but the game is as good as finished to me.
I will miss you all. There are far too many to name. I will likely still hang around the forums and discord but it wonât necessarily be my usual joint. Take care everyone.
EDIT: Iâd like to leave you all with a song whose title might describe my personality type

@Guvnor hope that answers your question
It does & more!
I will miss you friend. Stay in touch on discord!
If youâre looking for some epic fantasy novels to read some that will (more than) fill the time left by Empires are:
- Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Ericson
- Wheel of Time saga by Robert Jordan
- Midkemia series (all of the books) by Raymond E Feist (HIGHLY RECOMMEND)
- Ravenâs Shadow & Draconis Memoria trilogies by Anthony Ryan
- Scythe by Neal Shusterman (recommended to me, not yet read).
Like you I had the realisation semi-recently that it has been WAYYY too long since I actually read a book⌠I had been keeping tabs on the # of books read per year and the last 2 years have been quite a drop off⌠So Iâve also taken up reading again while the game sits and auto-plays for me (often forgotten lol).
This sucks. Iâll miss you bud.
Peace be with you @FrenziedEye. Life is about choices and balance. Often you donât have to choice between good and evil, but between good and good. Look forward to seeing you here in a less frequent fashion.
You will be missed. Was good to read your thoughts as a fellow player who doesnât spend.
I hope you get to read everything youâve got pictured, and more. I will second the Wheel of Time series, and anything by Pratchett or Adams. I never started the Harry Potter books, but have them. My issue with reading is I am way too unfocused in what I read. I have 7 books in my bed reading cubby: a biography, 2 history books, a mystery, a science book, a fantasy novel, and a book on Presidential dogs that I am almost done with.
What I do is take all the recommendations I get, write them in a notes section of my planner, and periodically check out what i can borrow from the library, or what I see at library sales.
Why not help me out?! Tulsa at itâs best, thatâs me 1 man army!
I endorse @Guvnor 's list and add The Empire Trilogy from R E Feist and Janny Wurts - the other side of the rift from Midkemia (Kelewan).
Thanks @FrenziedEye for all your comments and advice. Fare well on the next stage of your journey.
PS If you get all of those in dead tree format then you will need to build a bigger bookshelf (or two) !
I was including that trilogy too there are too many series to list so I just said all of Raymondâs books relating to Midkemia.
I have all the above books and definitely need all my bookshelves.
⌠and if you do end up writing a book, you absolutely have to tell us all about it here!
You sent me a message???
Ahh bummer your cool! Just take a break and see how yall feel.Good luck in the future in what ever you decide!
Enjoy your new adventure!
If you havenât read The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly, please consider it. Itâs not an epic on par with the Hitchhikers series, but I got completely lost in it and didnât want it to end. Thatâs about the biggest compliment I can give a book.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Good byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I hope that during your break, you can get through your backlog of other games I definitely have one too that Iâm currently working on getting through
Good luck and best wishes, stay in touch
Just ordered the Discworld Graphic Novels for my birthday based on your post and will be checking our the Last of Us. I plan to go from a grinder to just doing special quests, easy to get pulls, and Season 3. I have everything I need to do all of the Events, I just need to stop the grinding.
I rarely reply on the forum, but Iâve read alot and enjoyed much your efforts. I donât like these kind of topics because theyâre kind of sad, but Iâm glad you do whatâs best for you. Thanks for your contributions. You will be missed. Take care.
Just now seeing this.
Like Sarah McLaughlin, I will remember you. A fine poster, contributor, leader, and person of whom I respect.
