Goodbye, I'll never be back

Memories

I have a ton of old computer, and console games, I still hoard for the memories. Though I have gotten rid of some of the unplayable ones ( 5.25 inch disk ).

Trivia, if no one in your alliance logs in, titans do not spawn.

Razing

I recommend the “raze it and salt the earth” approach for some players because Empires is designed to be addictive and invasive.

Community

Like a wedding, and a funeral, Posting videos of razing an account is to help your friends, and enemies, in the game process your leaving.

The razed, married, dead player does not need the ceremony, but the ceremony helps others adjust to the new reality.

I understand some people need to do it be free but my genuine concern is that doesn’t in any way deal with the underlying addiction.

Cold Turkey is not an effective treatment for someone with an addictive personality (not that this is actually needed to become addicted, but it’s generally present in some form)

The person walks away and sure the will power may be strong for a week or a month but the issue is still there.

Which is why for me the raze it down isn’t curing anything. It’s proved you can quit just like an alcoholic who pours all the whisky down the sink. But nothing is fixed.

This game is a huge amount of fun but has gambling elements that people can fall into a rabbit hole with. As you say, Casinos are profitable for a reason.

The key to any vice is enjoying it in moderation and not losing ones head. Poker is a lot of fun if played in ones levels but going on tilt is a genuine thing that happens to all but the best professionals. If you have them funds free to do a 10 summon then do so and accept whatever it gives you. Sometimes you’ll get that buzz of getting a 5*, often you won’t but that’s the key to this. Setting a limit and not over stepping it.

The game can be played perfectly well for free if one has the patience for it. We all get to chose whether we are that person I guess.

It is all dependent on your approach to the game.

If you play to win (presumably meaning be among the best or at the top), you feel like you have to pay to get an advantage. That being the case, going f2p will not satisfy you unless you change your approach as well. And to get a real advantage you need to PAY. But does paying help you enjoy the game more, or less? And does stopping spending let you enjoy the game more, or less?

I play to have fun, so being f2p is quite acceptable to me. I have no illusions of winning anything and I have no desire to spend for an advantage that will not help me increase my enjoyment anyway. I have spent a small amount in the past, but with one exception there was no expectation of any advantage gain. And that one exception (first PoV) is the one expenditure I regret.

Well, I’m level 70+, it’s repetitive, always the same opponants in alliance wars (top 100), battleting every day the same team in raid (gravemake / telluria / vela). Fighting 14* titans every single day those last 3 months (all of them killed).

Well, no more pleasure, not to mention halloween event and SG reaction.

so F2P at the moment and will leave soon as most members of my alliance will have their accounts closed

Agreed re still dominated by tell tanks primarily during wars. Hopefully (sorry guys), another nerf is looming to pick at her defence and hp instead. Its still too good an option to switch out

I wish I had the guts to wipe my account, I think I’d feel netter for it. But the thousands spent is what holds me back

I wish we encountered Telly tanks in wars. She’s the easiest “top” tank. A true tile dump. The only time I lose is if she dies too quick and then my board dries up. Cakewalk.

i can see the rage when you fed 4 5 star heroes to 1 star heroes…Wish you have good luck on your next journey…

So it seems many of your alliance took advantage of an obvious flaw. Sorry this adds to the demise of your alliance and your involvement in the game but for what’s it worth the SGG reaction was the right one

I’m fairly certain no one ever praised SG for not being shamelessly greedy. :slightly_smiling_face:

Nah. I don’t know any of them in the game or in this forum. You do it instead. You can edit the OP, list their names and add some summary of the player or something of that sort.

I actually tried that for a while but IMO the money grab is not their worst issue, it’s game mechanics. they dry out must of the fun.

There is no need to stick to this game as F2P if you don’t enjoy cause there are options out there. To give you an example I’ve been playing a Chinese game that is by far the best in this genre, IMO. If you take any aspect of it, say, Titans, if you use their Wu Kong it doesn’t matter if gems miss, you wont get damage from those but as long as you string 3 together under the weak point the Titan will freeze… Also, their rare Titans dont reflect color so you have a better gaming experience.

They also have huge events all the time, better rewards, many avenues to get stronger heroes, an equipment system that works to improve any character (no emblem BS). you can literally turn a 4* into a brutal 5* that can compete anywhere cause there are 4 upgrade systems, they have alliance only event where you explore regions for rewards with your alliance and a lot of other stuff that keeps you entertained AND competitive even if you spend little or not at all.

EP forgot a long time ago about keeping it entertaining and to me it’ll be the demise of this game. Damn shame.

I will never get players like you.
Game run by greedy people - lol, welcome to the gaming industry.
Where have you been hiding up until now, it is 2020.
I am glad you finally opened your eyes.
What you see is LIFE.

The game you talk about sounds fun. Shame you can’t name the game

Indeed but if you pay attention it’s not hard to find. THREE different games caught my attention after empires but I had to settle for one cause it felt like ruling several KINGDOMS and having no control over any. I enjoy my gameplay now, AND, it really PUZZLES me how more people dont know about the game i stuck with.

It wasn’t always like this, though.

Video games used to be hands down one of the absolutely most affordable forms of entertainment in existence.

My non-gaming friends never understood why I was willing to pay $50 for a brand new game. If it was a good game, it could keep me entertained for 100+ hours over several months or years.

Whereas they would regularly spend $20 to go to the movies and be entertained for 2 hours.

Somewhere along the way, game companies started learning new tricks to bring in “additional revenue”. Many many years ago, I remember reading on another game forum, a very well thought-out post explaining how the introduction of microtransactions to games will eventually lead to the death of gaming. Or, at least, the death of what us Original Gamers had thought that video games were supposed to be about.

When I was growing up, myself and several other kids hoped to become video game designers some day. Not so that we could become rich beyond our wildest dreams, but so that we could earn a living doing something we enjoyed, bringing new virtual interactive worlds to life, worlds that we had created ourselves.

That’s what I originally wanted to do. But back then, I didn’t have internet access, and very few schools offered programming classes. The ones who ended up going into the field were mostly self taught. The “super nerds”, essentially.

Of course, I’m sure most of them dreamed of getting rich some day. And probably some of them did achieve that goal. But that wasn’t what motivated them to get into the industry. If anything, they would have balked at the idea of creating games borne of their own imaginations and keeping most of the content locked behind an absurdly insurmountable paywall, because they wanted everybody to be able to play and fully enjoy their games.

Some of these comments are hilarious!:rofl::rofl:

How many downloads does that game have? If it is in the millions, then it may be a good game indeed.

I’ve played a game for 23 years now. Microsoft bought Bungie for the rights to Halo that they needed a killer app for launch. Microsoft GAVE away their rights (open source) and it is still a pile of fun online or over LAN if you have friends old enough.
