For the love of... need a solution to duplicate heroes!

is simply kicking the can down the road about finding a solution to a problem they have no intention of actually ever solving. But they wouldn’t want to say so because then people would then eat heroes they would never level instead of buying more hero space.

Despite what they’ve said, I don’t think SG has any intention of providing a way to provide a functional way to “retire” a large stock of duplicates. . . .I think “at some point down the line”, “hundreds of years” (slightly out of context but applies), and “never going to happen” all essentially mean the same thing.
