This thread is to provide early insights and discussion on the November 2022 HOTM, Morax

All Information from Beta is Subject to Change!

Don’t get attached

Details from beta, especially brand-new beta content, don’t tend to be very reliable for actual hero release.

It’s incredibly common that heroes are changed during beta testing, or sometimes even after testing but before release. That is, after all, the purpose of beta testing.

So I wouldn’t get too attached to any of this — it’s not unheard of for entire portions of skills to be removed or reworked, or for radical changes to stats to be made.

Or: How many summons are needed to get a HOTM?

Special thanks to @Garanwyn for assistance on summoning odds and proofreading for this section.

It’s important to remember that HOTM have very low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a HOTM.

On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 12.3% chance of summoning the HOTM.

But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.

Some useful insights:

  • 73 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 100
  • 95 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 229
  • 99 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 352

Putting that in Perspective

  • 27 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 100th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 100 times, 270,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

  • 5 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 229th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 229 times, 50,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these two threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

I think this guy would be a big upgrade for my rather sad purple crew. Let the summon saving commence. You’re the best for us planners, @PlayForFun !

I like how we get October’s hotm that boosts health, then the next one does the opposite.

Meh.

  • 400% to one and minor to nerby? This is less than standard Richard does.
  • The -24% mana generation only to one target? Not much useful. Costumed lianna has -34% for three
    turns, but is fast.
  • reduced max health of 2 heroes - reducing max healt is not effective way of fighting.

Am I not seeing something about this hero?

This is what excites me. Boosted health may be too niche, but any direct mana gain passive is nice.

But base Richard starts with 120 less attack than base Morax. Not saying it’s amazing, but that’s 480 more raw damage to the target and 240 more raw damage to nearby.

Lame all the second half hotm have immunity to fiends. So if you already have a 2022 hotm with immunity to fiends and use a second hotm with the same immunity you aren’t getting anything else added.

We shouldn’t even compare newcoming hotm with S1 vanilla over 5 years old in the first place.

We should compare him to this new shiny S5 hero, what clearly states, that the hotm is weak.
Tetisheri hits way harder. His secondary skill is much better. His tertiary shill is also much better. And on top of that, he has his powerful passives and far better stats.
I understand, that HOTMs should be weaker than new season heroes, but this one falls behind really far.

Not correct.
Fiend protection is an elemental link, you need to have at least two HOTMs from 2022 family to have the protection on entire team.

I like this one, hopefully I’ll catch it in my Black Friday summons.

And if you tend to go mono, as I do, having heroes in multiple colors with this same element link is a pretty good deal.

no a bad hero to have, I like the mana slow down and the passive

C Lianna gives -34% mana generation only for the target, but I agree, this hero should reduce mana of the three targets, even if reduces the duration to 3 turns.

I don’t feel all that compelled to want this guy… Not saying he’s bad… But for my roster… He’s a pass.

This hero gives mana ailment also only to the target

I’m starting to lose interest in the “reduce max health” specials, since nowadays most healers are overhealers and the reduction is still blocked at that 30%. As the game is now, that mechanic is absolutely useless.

Agreed. Oh… You too away health that was already missing… No God no… The only time i want to use max health reduction is when it is the first hero charged… Like rumplestiltskin costume with a bunch of average hitters. But even then… Don’t love it.

An ok hero to have if he falls into your roster.
But in my honest opinion not a game changer that encourages players to chase Morax.
It’s getting to be much of a muchness with regards to special skills so again if I pull Morax in November he is unlikely to get to the front of my purple queue of heroes waiting on mats
Just my two pennies worth

Suggest two changes:
1 - 400% to target & minor to near → 285% to target and nearby
2 - 24% mana gen slowdown to target → 24% mana gen slowdown to target and nearby

Morax is a hero that I don’t really need or want, but if he appears in my roster, I will max him one day. I’m not sure if his -24% mana regen. is so helpful as it could. Mist’s -64% for 3 targets is helpful and it slows down enemies significantly, but -24% for 1 target won’t give you much more time.
I’ve just seen his artwork and this one is cool. He looks a little bit like Congalach or Luigi - Morax is a blue-purple ghost. He has a hood on his head, huge scythe above his head and a lantern. Like a reaper. :slightly_smiling_face:
