This thread is to provide early insights and discussion on the July 2022 HOTM, Klaern

All Information from Beta is Subject to Change!

Don’t get attached

Details from beta, especially brand-new beta content, don’t tend to be very reliable for actual hero release.

It’s incredibly common that heroes are changed during beta testing, or sometimes even after testing but before release. That is, after all, the purpose of beta testing.

So I wouldn’t get too attached to any of this — it’s not unheard of for entire portions of skills to be removed or reworked, or for radical changes to stats to be made.

Or: How many summons are needed to get a HOTM?

Special thanks to @Garanwyn for assistance on summoning odds and proofreading for this section.

It’s important to remember that HOTM have very low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a HOTM.

On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 12.3% chance of summoning the HOTM.

But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.

Some useful insights:

  • 73 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 100
  • 95 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 229
  • 99 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 352

Putting that in Perspective

  • 27 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 100th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 100 times, 270,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

  • 5 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 229th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 229 times, 50,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these two threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

nothing special about this hero

Compare him with Crystalis. She deals 190% and 70 frost damage for 4 turns, 4x70 = 280. She reduces the duration of all enemies’ active buff and reduces the target’s attack, he heals himself. Crystalis seems better regardles mana speed, but she is fast and he is slow.
What a trash hero…

OMG, basically a Quintus level hero, with nice passives. Severely underpowered in the current state at SLOOOOOOOOOOW.

This is like borderline S1 tier skills. He might be the worse 2022 hotm if this keeps up

These 2 pasives together are great
And thats where the good part ends

If we would be back in 2018, this hero might be solid.

Does resisting ailments that block special skills mean he will resist Alfrike?

Yes. Yes. Yes. MA
And also resist Silence

Looks to me like a rush war candidate to counter Alfrike

Thank you! Also found this older post.

Is Klaern the Ferant and Alfrike rush counter? He’ll resist both of their mana control. He hits okay and then heals himself with water damage (almost like Anzogh in a way).

I see those above aren’t too excited and I agree that for overall use he won’t be. But we all want Alfrike and Ferant counters. It looks like this guy might be it.

Yup. Looks that way. Not the greatest HOTM but not that shabby.

so, 205 water damage over 5 turns, is equivalent to 41 damage per turn. and heals a quarter of that damage, bacically, only heals 50hp…I’ll pass on this hero. In this current selection of heroes, this hotm is too weak.

The damage is to all. So (if not killed anyone by direct hit) he will heal about 250 HP (50HP from each enemy) over 5 turns, so about 50 HP/turn until enemy cleanser fires. Still not impressive, bur helps to survive.

Looks like Rush war and tournaments are here for good with these specialized heroes that are truly useful in rush instances and not that good elsewhere.

seems timid, even in a Rush context.

the card says “dealt Water damage,” so is it only tied to his Water damage ailment? if you paired with Vela, would her ailment also contribute healing to Klaern?

also, i’m amused that the special skill is called “Hailstorm” and the ailment it provides is Water damage

Hail is crystalized water

After Telluria’s sister, what do we have here? Vela’s brother?
What’s next? Jean Francois’ twin, so that the slayed trio that had to dominate the game can be repeated once again?

Aw, not another Slow Hero … :pensive: Oh, well. Nice passive skills though, indeed.

Hes not a counter to alfrike or whatsoever, he just resist himself against alfrike, but not with the teammates,

So if another hero like say, exeera who deals way more water damage fires…this HOTM can heal more from the water DOT?
