HotM Sadness

Wow. blue 5* HotM Vela is just wow. But a HotM.

Do not click, HotM Appearance and Performance

I have not liked a combination of hero art, and hero game stats, this much since Delilah. Maybe Ranvir. Maybe Duke of Rock Tiburtus.

My family spent way to much money chasing Delilah every time Delilah appeared ( only one account got Delilah ).

Do not click, HotM Ranvir

I saved for 6 months for Ranvir/ Sand Empires.

20+ Epic Hero Tokens, VIP daily Gems, Training camps ( 3x RT11, 1x RT20 ), 150+ Daily summons tokens.

I had hoarded food, and unclaimed 1* / 2* / 3* heroes, all ready.

No 4* / 5* heroes on any accounts.

Do not click, staff HotM skills

The Devs are only going to get better at HotM design as Empires goes on.

Even if I get lucky with Vela, there is always more HotM.

Do not click, Puzzle Combat HotM

I wonder if you can play Puzzle Combat without ever doing a limited times summons?

No risk of an HotM ( or the equivalent ). Just locking those heroes away from your game play.

Using gems for guaranteed returns on investment like roster space and hero teams?

The equivalent of inviting your friends over to play penny ante poker instead of buying a scratch off lottery ticket every Friday after work.

Could you just play the game strictly with the equivalent of Guaranteed rare recruit training ( RT12 )?

Just 3* heroes and farmable ascension items.

Loss of emblems, costume keys, 4*/ 5* heroes and HotM ( or the equivalent ) would mean the rewards from class quests, costume chamber, and rare quests would be much less.

But 3* heroes require so much less of everything.

Less Hero XP, less food, less iron, less recruits, less world energy, less loot tickets, less emblems, less real world time.

Would this be Nice 2 Play? Niche 2 Play? Safe 2 Play?

Would you be a Big fish in a little pond?

Should I take a break until Empires, and Combat, have trade?

Using any HotM I am unlucky enough to summon to trade for Wu Kong, Rigard, Melendor, Boldtusk, Kiril, Grimm, Scarlett ( or their equivalent ). Like graduating midshipman selling off their sports cars every graduation

I wonder if I should just walk away from Empires now?

I mean I personally would be devastated if you left, just because you offer so much analytical prowess that the community doesn’t really have. But it’s your life, and it’s your happiness after all. If fate and RNG has been that much of a disappointment, sometimes cutting your losses is best.

I know that feeling of constantly having to keep up with the joneses as it were, and E&P is no exception. One of my favorite quotes of all time is from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland:

“Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!”

Unless you spend literal thousands or tens of thousands of dollars, it will never happen. At best, it wouldn’t hurt to ask yourself what you want out of the game and what you enjoy and whether your budget can support it and whether, after all is said and done, you can be happy or at least satisfied with the money and time you’ve spent. There are worse vices than E&P, but once again, if you aren’t happy, sometimes walking away is the best thing you can do.

There’s a whole wide world out there beyond a little, black screen, after all, and life’s too short to suffer heartbreak on zeroes and ones.

Solo play

As a solo player I no longer have to keep up with my friends, and alliance teammates

Getting zero ( 0 ) Tier completion rewards will not cause me to lang behind friends, or drag down teammates

Guardian Falcon

I have 3x free summons which will be my best chance to get Guardian Falcon

The red 4* hero I always wanted

The star of Falcon, Wilbur/ Gormek, and Boldtusk, red 4* hero team

After all the money, injuries, sweat, and tears

Would summoning Falcon be worth it?

No

1x Red Falcon 4* 4.70 has been replaced by 2x to 7x red c.Marjana Lv85 5*+20

Fun, exciting, quirky and experimental

Even the Devs had some unexpected excitement with Guardians v1.0 ( see notes )

Challenge events v3.0 do not have the fun and excitement of the first appearance of Guardians

Small team

Empires is less, and less, what cool thing can the Devs add to the game and

More, and more, how can the Devs increase the grind so a small team can remain a small team

Empires is less, and less, about play, fun, excitement, discovery, and experimentation

More, and more, about work, grinding for years, repeating the same tasks, optimizing scant resources, managing inventory

Filler and merchandising

Like an insanely profitable, kid friendly, anime adaption that has passed the available books of the adult, ground breaking, fun, exciting, quirky and experimental manga/ light novel it is based on

new content is clip shows, filler arcs, and new arcs for boring, adaption only, merchandise based, kid friendly, new characters that take hours to sit through for very little pay off

SGG / Zynga will still make huge profits for years and years

Employees, and customers, will still have fun

But unlike a classic that stuck to being pure entertainment, with fond memories for years to come ( Looking at you Bill Watterson ^1 ), it will slowly dilute its original, long ago joy

From a childhood memory of a sparkling spring of life giving possibles, is shall spread out into a adult reality of a huge, slightly toxic, morass of muddy, cloudy silt and international, commercial traffic like the mouth of the Mississippi river ( looking at you Star Wars )

The creativity

The drive

The sheer intelligence required to build spend depth into a freemium game and add more, and more, over the years

But the global economy is what it is

Money to fund entertainment does not come from nothing

It comes from people with money, who want more money

Okay

Now it is time for me to admit, Challenge events v3.0 will never be as exciting as the first Guardian event
