I’ve tried to open a slot from a hero in my favorites and the hero will not unlock. Please see video for the Boldtusk.
I see no video but even after you unlocked the particular hero, you will not be able to use the hero to level other if it was STILL a member in any of your team.
It will only visible during leveling after the hero was removed from your team.
Maybe it is the way the game or fate tells you how wrong is to feed a maxed BT to Grazul. He’s a great hero and even the dupes are very useful in AW, especially if you encounter green tanks

I don’t think the OP is trying to feed the 2 maxed BTs. He is asking why he is not able to feed the 2 BTs at 1.1 who are apparently locked and cannot be unlocked. 
I think you are unlocking the wrong set of Boldtusks. You have two of them maxed and two unmaxed. Your 1st screenshot shows that you unlocked a maxed 4.70 Boldtusk. But in your Grazul feed screenshot you are focusing on two Boldtusks who are at 1.1… So please don’t feed your maxed 4.70 BTs to Grazul.

Oh no! I don’t know how many times I’ve looked at this post and didn’t notice that. I hope the OP didn’t feed the maxed BT…

Could be a merge to worst mistakes thread!? 
Didn’t feed any maxed heroes. Couldn’t unlock the non leveled ones. It got fixed.
