Best approach - boost attack or defence

If you had a choice, and assuming all hero’s are approximately even, and a rainbow team. If you had ONE choice to either -35% opponent defence or +35% ally offence, which would you pick

I’d always prefer to lower the enemy, since I’m using at least two, often three healers. Everything setting up bad aliments is harder to dispel than a buff.

Those who don’t bring healers would probably buff their own attack.

Depends on your team.

I believe I read somewhere that it’s more beneficial for you to decrease their defense rather than increase your attack from a mathematical standpoint. @Kerridoc or @zephyr1 may be able to find the thread. If not @Garanwyn is our resident mathematician and statistics guru. He may know the answer as well.

Side note- I agree with @Olmor. Hero choice will have a major impact. If your hero that buffs your attack is someone like Zim who, also cleanses at fast mana, it may be more beneficial to bring her than maybe Gormek (poor tile damage and average speed).

My observations (limited as they are) tends to support the defence approach. I know that the team makeup will influence this, but in my example I hit with Tibs and then with others and their impact can tend to knock out opponents (several) but when using + offence I just don’t get the same feel of impact on the game

Yes, in terms of comparing an attack buff of a certain amount vs a defense debuff of a certain amount, the defense debuff will benefit you more.
