The way I do it is input two asterisks before and after the word. No spaces. Note a single asterisk is for italics. That is why sometimes you see italicized text when people talk about 5* heroes.

H - Hamilton, second most populous city next to Auckland in the North Island. Our longest river, the Waikato river, seen in the pic below, runs through it.
